THE 90's Podcast - S06-E05 - Man on the Moon (1999)
Sunday May 03, 2020
Sunday May 03, 2020
WHAT’S UP EVERYBODY!?! This week John and Sarah sit down and talk about the Andy Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon. We look at how a comedy icon took on the role of a comedy icon, and almost lost himself, and lost a few friends along the way. We analyze the behind the scenes antics and see if the man we see on screen is ACTUALLY Andy Kaufman, or just the image that we are meant to believe. We look at how wrestling legend Jerry “The King” Lawler took to Carry’s portrayal, and how a wad of spit almost sent Carry to the hospital. We discuss the role of Courtney Love, and how one of the 90’s most controversial people, was on such good behavior, that she stayed away from the insanity. That plus discussions on Taxi, 80’s SNL, an obligatory mention of Tony Clifton, and we discuss the ultimate Kaufman question: Did he fake his own death?
Also we discuss the inner workings and staff of a “Bahamian” based Burger King, and a reminder TO STAY INDOORS AND WASH YOUR DAMN HANDS!!!

THE 90's Podcast - S06-E06 - 90's Animation Ranked

Sunday May 10, 2020
WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Gregg sit down and talk about 45 of the most popular animated shows, ranging from Saturday Morning Cartoons, PBS Educations shows, and shows that were made for Grown-ups. We talk about how some are fantastic, but why they’re not considered the top of the pile, and some who’s position will make you mad. We will look at how a unique and fun relatable show, was bought and bastardised by a new company. We look at why MTV knew how to do quality animated shows, as opposed to Cartoon Network, and how one man’s movie career lead to 3 god awful shows.
That and Gregg and I talk about how to get backstage at a show, and the best way to meet your heroes!

THE 90's Podcast - S06-E07 - Oasis: Be Here Now (1997)
Sunday May 24, 2020
Sunday May 24, 2020
WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Sarah sit down and talk about the black sheep of the Oasis catalogue – Be Here Now. We go track by track, as we discuss why some tracks are great, some tracks are bad, and some tracks were missing something. We discuss the length of the album, and was it too long, or not long enough? We discuss how the aura of a song can be made, and why (in John’s opinion) 1 song had a negative aura, and one a positive. We discuss how needless instrumentals can drive someone crazy, and how a road trip to see the band from Louisiana to Fairfax VA was harrowing for all the wrong reasons.
We also speak about the prelude to the album, and how Oasis blew their next to last chance at cracking the US before the album came out. The disastrous MTV Unplugged session from a logistical standpoint, and the recording of the album, which was rife with arguments, paparazzi, and an amount of drug use that horrified a record executive, who was known for partying.

WHAT’S UP EVERYBODY – This week John is joined by Dexter Duran as we sit down and talk about Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9. We talk about what the games are, from traditional fantasy, to futuristic dystopia. We talk about the ever changing magic system, and how FF 9 was the gateway to the series for new players. Dexter explains why grinding is important, as well as a discussion on modern remakes with save states, and cheats in the modern realm. We explain the morality of the games, as well as why it was mirrored in Japanese culture, and how good vs evil was the backbone of the games. We also talk about MMO’s, why John didn’t get into the series, and how the gameplay evolved, and also stayed the same, and of course the music, which is considered the greatest music in video game history.
John also spends a few minute talking about the next season of The 90’s Podcast, and what is happening in the world today.

THE '90s Podcast - Season 07 - Episode 01 - Blur - Parklife (1994)
Sunday Sep 06, 2020
Sunday Sep 06, 2020
WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Sarah sit down and talk about the catalyst for the explosion of Britpop – Parklife by Blur. We look at a band who were tipped to be the next big thing, but fell away, only to pick up at the right moment. We redefine the word “Punk” in music, as the band kept their sound, in spite of the requests to change from the management and label. As we go track by track, we analyze Damon Alburn’s style of writing at the time, and how his penache for writing small stories made for some great songs, and some average ones. We also go over the title track, which made its way into mainstream British culture, and reignited a fued in the most public way. Finally we talk about what could be the bands most epic song, from a source which is probably the most boring.
We also have news on the Saucer Section podcast, and a return of the ‘90s Gamer.

THE 90s Podcast - Season 07 - Episode 02 - Fighting Classics
Sunday Sep 13, 2020
Sunday Sep 13, 2020
WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Gregg sit down and talk about 3 of the most popular fighting/combat games from the 90’s. Killer Instinct, Street Fighter II, and Tekken 2. We explain why we always go for game #2, as opposed to game #1 in most cases. There is discussion on why these 3 are better than Mortal Kombat, and why we didn’t talk too much about that. We also discuss how a simple plot can make or break a game. We also go over what each of the games brought to a Genre that was getting incredibly stale. We also speak about the level of “Realness” of the games, and how some things could take you out of your suspension of disbelief.
Also we have updates on our upcoming livestream, and the return of The 90’s Gamer, as well as an upcoming unique concert featuring Gregg and The Hollow Decks.

WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John is joined by Ben Tynan, and Dexter Duran of Superwierd, as we sit and talk about all things from the Disney classic: 1994’s The Lion King. We discuss everything from the soundtrack, to the plot in detail. From questions of “How did Scar get his name”, to how Whoopi Goldberg is a national treasure. We go over Classic Disney movies, and point out the lull in them. We also talk about wheter or not the live action movies are actually any good, compared to the classic animations, and finally we see John cracking after one too many funny moments.
Special thanks go to Ben and Dexter, and check them out on their podcast Superwierd: A Quest for the absurd in Children’s Television.

THE 90s Podcast - Season 07 - Episode 04 - Oasis - 50 Songs Ranked
Sunday Sep 27, 2020
Sunday Sep 27, 2020
The following episode of THE ‘90s podcast, is rated explicit due to bad language. Listener discretion is advised.
WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week, John and Sarah sit down and try and rank all of the first 50 songs Oasis Released. From classics like Wonderwall, and Live Forever, to rare songs like Talk Tonight, and The Headshrinker, we look at all of the songs from the bands 4 albums released in the 90’s and place them where they should be.
We prove that some of the “Iconic” songs are not as great as we remember, and also prove that all fans have disagreements, when one of the most stupid songs the band released, actually ranked quite high.
We also have some more news regarding our upcoming livestream, and the return of THE ‘90s gamer!

THE 90s Podcast - Season 07 - Episode 05 - Beavis and Butthead
Sunday Oct 04, 2020
Sunday Oct 04, 2020
**DISCLAIMER** - John and Gregg are not role models. While they are human, they are about to delve into the world of the most uncouth of cartoons. Some of the things they will talk about and language they use to describe things would cause pearls to be clutched, blood pressure to rise, and hopefully not get John deported. To put it another way, don’t listen at work or around kids at home. Listener discretion is advised... Buttmunch!
WHATS UP EVERYBODY??!!?? This week John and Gregg sit down and talk about the 2nd best cartoon of the 90’s. MTV’s Beavis and Butthead. We look at the characters and how Butthead was supposed to be the star, with Beavis as his sidekick. We discuss how rights issues scrapped one of the planned spin offs, but how the replacement was well worthy of it being a standalone. We look at the top episodes, the controversies that almost cancelled the show before it could get up and running, Mike Judge the creator, everything you could think of!
Also John give more information on the Because Maybe 2020 charity event, an update on our upcoming Oddworld series, and the usual bits and nonsense.
Thanks to Gregg Gregory for taking part this week. To see Gregg stream some classic video games check out his Twitch channel!
